Email marketing tips on the Lab with Leo

Work Industries’ second appearance on Lab with Leo showed up online and we’re glad to share it now.

In the 9-minute segment Monique shares with Leo her top tips for creating an effective email newsletter. And she knows what she’s talking about because she’s the force behind the Underwire newsletter: full support for non-techies.

Lab with Leo episode 132 — Monique Trottier explains her top 5 email marketing tips.

I enjoyed that Monique, I will def. take a look at those options for future campaigns. Congrats!

Thanks Cinci! I had a great time doing the show. My next episode is on using search to drive traffic to your site, airing sometime in June. Cheers.

Kudos, Monique.  Your new site’s great, and this commenting function works perfectly! (even the little image with the word in it—see, I’m human!)

Great video, but I’m wondering what audience the show is aimed at? While I was familiar with many of the terms used on the show, I wonder how many of the non-tech IT people watching were confused by some of the acronym’s and industry related terms used?

Hi Gavin,
Thanks for your comments.

Lab with Leo is a technology show that’s broadcast in Canada, the US and Australia. Although the core audience is tech savvy, you’re right that there are a lot of terms and acronyms that wouldn’t be familiar to many people.

Are there particular words that stood out? Perhaps I should create a short glossary.

All the best,
Monique

Hi Monique,
I think the main things that stood out were related to:

Spam Filters (What they are and how they work).
Email Clients - I think most people are familiar with Outlook but they probably don’t know that people use say Lotus Notes / Thunderbird / Eudora / Apple Mail etc and the fact that these are called client programs.

I know you mentioned Campaign Monitor and MailChimp which are great programs, but perhaps a little further details as to why they are so good would help the uninitiated.

Maybe also cover a bit of the laws involved with sending mail. Spam issues and fines for companies that send spam etc..

I realise the show was short, and it would have been difficult to explain everything so I think you did well.

Hi Gavin,
I created a new blog post to answer some of the points you posed about email marketing.

Thanks again for the feedback.

Here’s the post More Email Marketing Tips.

Cheers,
Monique

I hate to say this but there are very VERY few “newsletters” that I’m excited to see in my mailbox. In face, the ONLY so called news letter I’m OK with is the one from NewEgg that shows me weekly deals. I get a ton of news letters everyday and it’s really annoying. I think most sites trick you into signing up for news letters and would be better off not wasting their time and making people hate their brand.
