As Darren says on the Northern Voice website:
This year Northern Voice is offering six travel bursaries of CAN $500 each. The organizing committee will be awarding these bursaries based on a number of criteria, including:
- The contributions you can make to the conference
- Your level of need
- The quality of your submission
- The diversity you might bring to Northern Voice
We’ll announce the recipients of the bursaries on February 2nd, 2007. The bursaries will be paid out via cheque mailed out to recipients or picked up on the day of the conference.
To apply, write a blog post, or record a podcast or video blog post describing why you want to come to Northern Voice. Then submit it via our travel bursaries page.
Essentially we’re trying to make the conference more accessible to folks who otherwise might not able to attend. So if you’re thinking of coming and you have a barrier to it - travel, accommodations, etc. - then be sure to apply. We want a new, diverse group of people contributing every year.

Did you know I’m helping to organize the Northern Voice conference this year? It’s true, I am.
Did you also know that Northern Voice is the best darned conference value out there? It’s also true. For $50 you get two full days of the best conversations on personal publishing, blogs, micromedia and social software anywhere.
Today, we announced the Northern Voice 2007 schedule of speakers.
The schedule is for Northern Voice Day 2. What’s day 1? Moosecamp. Any more? And how: a dinner on Thursday night and a pancake breakfast on Sunday.
So here’s a little more about Northern Voice:
In 2005, the organizers of Canada’s first weblogging conference put on an event that was inexpensive, informal, and accessible to techies and newbies alike. From those humble beginnings Northern Voice has been transformed into… well, actually it’s still cheap, friendly and open to all.
Without question, the event has grown due to the overwhelming community response. It’s added a second self-organizing day known as Moose Camp. We expect a few more attendees this year, in part because our space is larger. But the core values remain the same—we have held the line on costs (fifty Canadian bucks get you the full two days), we try to make the event family-friendly by offering space for parents to establish cooperative child-minding, and we do the main event on Saturday so non-professionals can attend.
And although it is a weblog conference, the range of topics may involve anything that webloggers are interested in… that is, just about anything. Previous years have had plenty of geekery mixed with panels on how blogging interacts with family life, education, travel, photography, community building and establishing professional profiles. Speakers range from the big names at the top of the Technorati rankings to first-time presenters with a passion to share.
Are you ready to register yet? Spots are filling up faster than previous years, both of which were sold out. So if you’re interested in participating - not just attending, no one comes just to watch - you’ll have to sign up now.
Any questions? How about the Northern Voice FAQ or you could just ask me.
