# 5 Marketing Resources for Writers

I gave a talk this weekend on (http://publishing.sfu.ca/2014/09/building-your-author-platform-a-word-vancouver-presentation/), which was part of WORD Vancouver’s professional programming for writers. Details and slides are on the Publishing@SFU website but I wanted to sing the praises of a few online magazines and author-support sites. 

### 1. (http://janefriedman.com/)

Jane Friedman is a professional speaker and publisher based in the US. She launched (http://scratchmag.net/), which is a magazine about writing and money, and she is the former publisher of Writer’s Digest. She knows what it takes to become a best-selling indie author and she shares her advice for traditionally published and self-published authors.

Jesse Finkelstein and Trena White are two publishing veterans who’ve partnered in a new form of agency for non-fiction authors, both self-publishing and traditionally publishing. They don’t post often but, when they do, it’s worth reading.
